As well as many new faces, some old players from neighboring countries are already there, with heads-ups between the two already winning pots in high rollers. Pro Cristian Stival handled it well.
In a hand involving multiple players and even 5-betting pre-flop, Stival got into a pot that was even more profitable, and his friend Nicolas Villard Velarde) has an advantage of 130 blinds over the player. The game was played with blinds 400/800 and was the last hand before the first break.
When the match started, A player at the start of the table opened to 1,600 and Colombia’s Sebastian Fonseca three-bet from the button to 4,000. Starting in the small blind, after a bit of banter, Velarde decided to call and Cristian Stival in the middle decided to 4-bet for 16,000.
The player who starts to act quickly folds. Meanwhile, Fonseca decided to call. The last to speak, Velarde was surprised again and announced a 4-bet/all-in since he had more chips than everyone else involved. Stival has since confirmed the drop, announcing 42,300 in chips. Sebastian thought about it and gave up.
So the dispute between Argentine friends reached the point of showdown, and the expected thing happened. The classic X-Cooler was in Stival’s favour, with the board confirming the victory for Cristian, who took home a massive 104,200 chip pot and over 130 blinds to become a tournament smash. Velarde has chips left, and his stack is clearly divided, but he joked, “That’s how my life sums up.”
